We did not live in the city of Leicester but visited often. Leicester Castle was a symbol of the House of Lancaster’s great power. And my happiest day was when we finally married in 1396. Our time together had already given us four children: John, Henry, Thomas and Joan. After our marriage their legitimacy was confirmed by the Pope and King Richard II. Our children took the name of Beaufort.
My husband John died in my arms at Leicester Castle, 1399.
